Developing a Cloud Based Cyber Security Simulation Portal - David Krovich SecureWV/Hack3rcon 2018 (Hacking Illustrated Series InfoSec Tutorial Videos)

Developing a Cloud Based Cyber Security Simulation Portal
David Krovich
SecureWV/Hack3rcon 2018

This talk provides an overview of the development and usage of the Cyber Security Simulation Portal (CSSP), a web application built on the Ruby on Rails framework which provides a portal to manage cybersecurity simulations in the cloud. The objective of this effort was to create easy-to-build, easy-to-destroy environments which users can access remotely. Such environments can be useful in training exercises for competitions such as the Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition. By utlizing cloud computing and APIs, training resources can be allocated on demand which can greatly reduce costs of setup, deployment, delegation, and usage.

David Krovich is a Research Associate Faculty in the Lane Department of Computer Science at West Virginia University. David has earned his a BS in Computer Science and MS in Software Engineering from West Virginia University. His current research areas are cybersecurity and open source software.
