Choosing your next antenna, types, power, sizes, the truth. - Raul J Plà (Defcon Wireless Village 2014) (Hacking Illustrated Series InfoSec Tutorial Videos)

Choosing your next antenna, types, power, sizes, the truth. - Raul J Plà

Antennas and wavelength and antenna sizes. Frequency and wavelength size relationship. "Gain" antennas and how it relates to size. Omni directional (stacking colinear elements). Directional (parasitic elements, phased elements, logarithmic elements). Practical use of this info: shopping for your next antenna on 2.4GHz or 5.7Ghz. Directional and omni directional antennas signal fields and directivity casual observations. Omni patterns fat and round to a flat pancake. Directional antennas directivity, relationship of forward gain to beam width. Near field and far field observations of both above.

Bio: Raul J Pla' has been designing and making antennas since his start in Amateur Radio (Ham radio) 38 years ago. The hobby became a life long business 35 years ago which continues today: http://www.antennaworld.com/ http://antennatesting.com/ http://trugain.org/ and several other divisions. An intense interest in antenna experimentation, design, performance, manufacturing and sales created a self taught antenna career. Today he enjoys using his state-of-the-art anechoic test chamber and fully equipped lab for other RF devices as well. Today he manages and directs the production of thousands of cellular and wifi antennas monthly from the Miami FL headquarters.
