I believe we are on the cusp of a significant change in how infosec needs to adapt to detect and respond to security threats. Not only is this a shift in technology but a change in the skill sets that will be required. Information security has always been full of buzz words today we hear things like threat intelligence, threat hunting and data analytics. It is easy to get caught up in vendor marketing but the true ideas behind these terms are not only necessary now but will be as common place in the future as things like IPS, Firewalls and SIEM are today. This talk will provide an overview of how these ideas can be adapted by an organization today and where the future will take us. Garrett McManaway has worked in information security for 15 years. He has held many different roles include analyst, engineer, architect, consultant and manager with a heavy focus on detection and response. Garrett is currently a Senior Manager with responsibilities overseeing all threat management services. In addition to holding several information security certification including CISSP, CISM and CISA Garrett has a Master’s Degree in Information Assurance from Walsh College. Outside of work Garrett enjoys many geeky things such as comic books, video games, SCI-FI and popular television shows and movies.
