Hacking in Highschool: Inspiring the next generation of security professionals - Michael Benich Bsides Cleveland 2017 (Hacking Illustrated Series InfoSec Tutorial Videos)

Hacking in Highschool: Inspiring the next generation of security professionals
Michael Benich

Statistics show Information Security is a rapidly-growing field where the growth of available opportunities outpaces the amount of talent available (or so they say). As a result, the door has been opened for Security professionals to come from many non-traditional career paths. While the change in traditional career path can benefit those currently in the workforce, the Education industry has lagged behind in providing direction for those who may be interested in Security as a career.

In this talk, I describe my unorthodox journey into this industry, share my experiences incorporating infosec into my High School classroom, and explain how current professionals can get involved in their communities to support the development of the next generation of talent.

Current penetration tester and information security consultant at SecureState. Former high school Physics teacher at Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School.
