Augmenting Mobile Security and Privacy Controls - Brian Krupp @briankrupp Bsides Cleveland 2015 (Hacking Illustrated Series InfoSec Tutorial Videos)

Augmenting Mobile Security and Privacy Controls
Brian Krupp @briankrupp

The current available security and privacy controls for mobile devices are insufficient. Control over privacy data is very coarse and operating systems do not offer the fine grained controls to protect consumers from privacy leakage or their data being transmitted over an insecure channel. In this talk, I will discuss why there is a need for more fine grained controls and survey the available consumer and academic solutions to augment existing security and privacy controls. I will also discuss the difference in solutions available for the two major mobile platforms, Android and iOS. I will also discuss the findings of the research I have done in this area which focuses on providing enhanced security and privacy controls for unmodified mobile operating systems, specifically iOS, where the focus in research has primarily focused on Android by providing a modified version of the operating system.

Brian Krupp is a doctoral candidate at Cleveland State University . His research has focused on providing enhanced security and privacy controls on mobile devices without requiring modification to the operating system. His research has been accepted into various journals and he has presented his research at international conferences. He is also a software developer at Hyland Software where he primarily develops mobile applications for iOS for the OnBase platform.
