The Ethics of Data Collection
BSides Tampa 2020
Abstract: The financial and reputational harms associated with data breaches or unauthorized disclosures of consumers information can be fatal for small and medium-sized businesses. However, implementing ethical collection practices can build trust between the consumers and the company, thereby softening the damages associated with data breaches or unauthorized disclosures of consumer data. Using collection limitations and allowing consumers to provide their informed consent before collecting data are two of many ways to ensure a business is engaging in ethical data collection practices.
In this presentation, Vanessa will elaborate on the importance of engaging in ethical data collection practices and explain how to use collection limitations and obtain informed consent from your clients or customers.
