The history of the relationships between hackers and the government is long, complicated, and always changing. Ariel Robinson, Alyssa, Feola, Gray Loftin, Beau Woods, Amélie E. Koran

Ariel Robinson is a writer and analyst in Washington, D.C. Her academic background is in cognitive science and linguistics, and her career has centered around defense, national security, and technology. Ariel is a communications specialist, and translates for subject matter experts across disciplines, using pictures and small words to solve big challenges.

Alyssa Feola serves as the Cloud Security Expert for the U.S. Department of Defense, United States Air Force Chief Information Officer, Cybersecurity Branch. Alyssa began her time in the public sector as a Computer Specialist for the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federation Aviation Administration, performing Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) activities, Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and the Electronic Records Management (ERM) eventually moving on to blaze through several Cybersecurity efforts for the United States Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (LCMC). Alyssa has sharpened her communication, leadership and technical skills through the Electronic Systems Center (ESC) Innovation Challenge, the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Advanced Course in Engineering (ACE) and the AFRL Commander’s Challenge. She has taken what she has learned about Cybersecurity and Mission Assurance from these opportunities and overlaid it with her extensive Information Technology acquisition experience to apply innovative solutions for the government. Alyssa is an advocate for Women in Technology, mentoring, and shifting from a compliance mindset to a security first approach. @its_a_lisa

Beau Woods is a cyber safety innovation fellow with the Atlantic Council, a leader with the I Am The Cavalry grassroots initiative, and founder/CEO of Stratigos Security. His focus is the intersection of cybersecurity and the human condition, primarily around cyber safety, ensuring connected technology that can impact life and safety is worthy of our trust. Over the past several years in this capacity, he has consulted with automakers, medical device manufacturers, healthcare providers, cybersecurity researchers, US federal agencies and legislative staff, and the White House. Prior to joining the Atlantic Council, Beau founded the security consultancy, Stratigos Security, to advise large enterprises, small business, and NGOs on information security strategy and development. Beau is also an original member of I Am The Cavalry, a civil society initiative focused on cybersecurity issues that impact human life and public safety. Prior to that, Beau spent five years with Dell SecureWorks, where he advised commercial clients on information security and built up the security consulting services practice. Beau is a frequent presenter, media contributor, and author, and graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a BS in psychology.

Amélie E. Koran serves as the Deputy Chief Information Officer for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of the Inspector General. Amélie’s path to DHHS OIG took her the long way around" through multiple industry sectors, academia, and the public sector. Her professional experience includes time spent at The Walt Disney Company, Carnegie Mellon University CERT/CC, Mandiant, The World Bank, and The American Chemical Society. She began her time in the public sector as Lead Enterprise Security Architect for the U.S. Department of the Interior, eventually moving on to lead Continuous Diagnostics and Mitigation implementation for the U.S. Treasury Department. Amélie later spent time on a leadership development rotation as part of the President’s Management Council Fellowship serving the Federal CIO in supporting cybersecurity policy analysis and legislative review, where she took an active role in the government-wide Open Data Initiative and helped in giving “birth” to the United States Digital Service (USDS). She’s an ardent advocate for innovative approaches to hiring talent and rationally applying security strategies and technologies for the Federal Government space. @webjedi
